In the years 1961-62, Ved Mehta, celebrated journalist, memoirist, and intellectual in his own right, wrote a series of articles for The New Yorker magazine that recounted, with vivid description and lively dialogue-transcriptions, his lengthy conversations with philosophers and historians associated with Oxford and Cambridge universities, the London School of Economics, and New College, London. The articles were published in book-form in 1963 (Atlantic Monthly Press) as Fly and the Fly-Bottle: Encounters with British Intellectuals.
